Reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in extractive distillation: Part II. Dynamic behavior

چکیده
The structure of thermally coupled distillation systems offers several control challenges arising from the transfer of vapor (or liquid) streams between columns. In particular, the presence of recycle streams for coupled schemes has led to the notion that control problems might be expected during the operation of these systems, in contrast to the rather well-known behavior of conventional distillation sequences. In this work, we analyze the control properties of thermally coupled extractive distillation schemes studied previously (Gutiérrez-Guerra, R., Segovia-Hernández, J.G. and Hernández, S., 2009, Reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in extractive distillation. Chem Eng Res Des, 87: 145–152). Control properties are analyzedwith the application of the singular value decomposition technique and a closed-loop analysis. The results showed that the energy savings predicted in the complex extractive distillation sequence can be achieved along with good dynamic behavior and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. © 2009 The Institution of Chemical Engineers. Reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in extractive distillation
In this paper, design and optimization procedures are developed for a conventional extractive distillation sequence and a thermally coupled extractive distillation scheme. The proposedmethodologies detect the optimal values of the design variables in order to guarantee theminimumenergy consumption. It was found that the optimumenergy consumption can be related to the minimum total annual operat...
متن کاملUsing system dynamics approach to identify factors affecting energy consumption and CO2 emissions in urban transport: A Case Study of Tehran
The current trend of rising energy consumption in the world has hit mankind with two major crises: first, environmental pollution, and second, the acceleration of finishing energy supplies. Energy storage and reduction of pollutants in the city plays a crucial role in the process of maintaining existing energy. Meanwhile, the transportation sector needs attention due to its importance and posit...
متن کاملThe Effects of Economic, Financial and Political Developments on Iran’s CO2 Emissions
This study examines dynamic interrelationships and causality relationships among CO2 emissions, economic, political and financial variables over the period of 1971-2011 for the case of Iran as one of the top CO2 emitting countries in the world. The results of ARDL and Johansen cointegration approaches confirm the existence of long run relationship among CO2 emissions, energy consumption, GDP, f...
متن کاملDehydration of Bioethanol by Hybrid Process Liquid Liquid Extraction/Extractive Distillation
Bioethanol is among the most promising of biofuels because it has an energy content similar to gasoline while generating lower pollutant emissions than gasoline. But, in order to be used as an automotive fuel mixed with gasoline, ethanol must have less than 0.5 wt % of water. To achieve required ethanol purity, in light of the fact that the ethanol water mixture forms an azeotrope, unconvention...

Introduction: Identifying the effect of energy consumption, economic growth and foreign trade on CO2 emissions have been studied at both national and international levels. However, there have been very few researches on the effect of financial and banking development on the CO2 emissions, especially in Iran. So, this study aimed to cover this research gap. Methods: This study was a time-series...
